Golden Hour Couples Session at Battery Spencer
There’s something hard to beat about a Battery Spencer couples session at golden hour. Between the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, rugged cliffs, sweeping ocean views, and warm California light, this part of the Marin Headlands creates one of the most beautiful backdrops for couples photos in the Bay Area.
We started this session around Battery Spencer, taking advantage of the classic views of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco in the distance. It’s an iconic location, but what I love most is how quickly the scenery changes as you explore the surrounding area. One moment you have the bridge behind you, and the next you’re walking along a quiet trail surrounded by dramatic cliffs and endless views of the coast.
As the sun began to drop, we made our way toward the cliffside for golden hour. The ocean caught the sunlight and created the dreamiest sparkle across the water. We kept things relaxed and playful, with plenty of walking, dancing, laughing, and letting the two of them simply enjoy the view together. Their corgi joined us too, which made for some of my favorite candid moments from the entire session.
My approach to Bay Area couples photography is a mix of documenting what naturally unfolds and stepping in with direction when it’s helpful. I want photos to feel effortless and honest while still being intentional and beautifully composed. Sessions like this are the perfect example—there was room for movement and spontaneity while still creating images that feel refined and timeless.
By the end of the evening, the light had softened, the coastline was glowing, and we had everything from playful photos with their dog to quiet moments overlooking the ocean.
For couples looking for Golden Gate Bridge couples photos, Battery Spencer and the surrounding Marin Headlands offer so much variety in one location. You get one of California’s most recognizable views alongside windswept trails, dramatic cliffs, golden sunsets, and the Pacific Ocean—a combination that feels unmistakably Bay Area while still leaving plenty of room to make the session your own.
