Sunset Couples Photos in Santa Cruz & Seascape Beach Resort
There’s something about the California coast that makes it perfect for couples photos—dramatic cliffs, ocean views, golden light, and plenty of room to create something that feels both romantic and a little adventurous. For this Santa Cruz couples session, we moved through three different coastal settings, starting high above the ocean on the cliffside before heading to Seascape Beach Resort in Aptos and eventually ending barefoot on the beach at sunset.
Cliffside Couples Photos in Santa Cruz
We started the session along the cliffs in Santa Cruz, surrounded by sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean. The coastline gave us a dramatic backdrop while still keeping the focus on the two of them.
We mixed more intentional, editorial-inspired portraits with plenty of movement and candid moments. They walked and ran along the cliffside, sat together overlooking the ocean, and embraced as the sunlight reflected across the water. Between the cliffs, coastal landscape, and sparkling ocean below, there was so much variety without needing to go far.
It was the perfect way to begin the session—romantic, relaxed, and just a little cinematic.
Golden Hour at Seascape Beach Resort in Aptos
From the cliffs, we made our way to Seascape Beach Resort in Aptos, California as the light started getting warmer.
The pathways and greenery around the resort gave us a completely different setting from the rugged Santa Cruz coastline. Golden sunlight filtered through the trees while they walked hand in hand, laughed together, and danced along the paths.
I love having this kind of variety within a couples gallery. The scenery changed, but the session still felt cohesive. We kept the same balance of natural interaction and thoughtful direction, creating photographs that felt candid while still having a refined, intentional quality.
Santa Cruz Beach Couples Photos at Sunset
For the final part of the evening, we headed down to the beach just in time for sunset.
This was where things became a little more playful. They kicked off their shoes, ran barefoot across the sand, danced by the water, and eventually made their way into the ocean. Instead of worrying about perfectly posed photographs, we leaned into movement and let the wind, water, and changing light become part of the session.
We stayed as the sun disappeared and the beach grew darker, giving us a completely different mood from where we started. From sparkling ocean views on the cliffside to warm golden hour and dreamy nighttime beach photos, the entire session felt like a little adventure along the coast.
Planning a Couples Session in Santa Cruz or Aptos
It’s also the perfect setting for couples who want their photos to feel like a mix of candid and curated. I’ll give direction when it helps create a beautiful photograph, but there’s always room to move, laugh, play, and let the unscripted moments happen naturally.
If you’re looking for a Bay Area couples photographer for a session in Santa Cruz, Aptos, or somewhere along the California coast, I’d love to create something that feels romantic, intentional, and completely your own.
One of my favorite things about photographing couples in Santa Cruz and Aptos is how much variety the coastline offers. You can start with dramatic cliffside views, move into greenery and golden light, and finish barefoot beside the ocean—all within the same session.
